Wednesday morning, after our Sea Kayaking, we headed off to Nelson where we would spend Christmas.
We didn’t really do much in Nelson as being there mainly on Christmas Day meant most things were closed. Also the area is famous for National Parks and Beaches and the most sunshine in New Zealand – so it is really a place to go for a week in its own right.
On the way from Picton to Nelson we came along the Mussel Pot for lunch. A gem of a restaurant in the little town of Havelock. The place specialises in green lip mussel’s as you can see by the mussels on the roof.
Christmas Day was a slow start. The girls got a laptop each plus some other small things, given we were travelling. We spent the afternoon on the beach at Ruby Bay and just took things very easy.
On Boxing Day we had a long drive back to Christchurch to meet mum and dad. The trip was broken half way with a stop at Hanmer Springs and its thermal pools. A great way to ease out the aches from sitting in the car.
The valleys driving down the inland highway from Nelson to Christchurch were spectacular.
