Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary

Saturday 26th February we spent visiting the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary about 2 hours drive out of Kuala Lumpur – http://www.myelephants.org/  This was quite a surreal experience as you get to feed, ride and swim with the elephants.

The full experience is restricted to the first 150 visitors and so you need to get there when they open at 10am – which we did.  Also there is no entrance fee only a donation.  We donated MYR300 (AU$100) and debated if that was enough as it is about the same as the entrance to a Zoo in Australia.  We later found out is was more than enough as they pulled us aside and Emily and I got to ride the Elephants into the river and Kerrie and Molly out of the river as a special treat for our donation.

As we one of the first there we were also on our own for a while with the Elephants feeding them peanuts.  Amazing how they can pick a single peanut out of your hand – although hands were wet afterwards.

While in the area we also went to the Kuala Gandah Deer Park and fed the deers.  The keeper took out a python which we got to wear and the girls were also taken into the Sun Bear enclosure for some close up photos – they were a bit scared!!!
