Penang–Tropical Spice Garden

While in Penang we visited the Tropical Spice Garden which had great gardens planted with many different spices.  The half hour tour took us around and gave us the chance to try many of the spices (cloves, cardamom, nutmeg).  The tour guide is a very animated old Chinese guy who doesn’t hold back – e.g. pointing out to me which spice would help me loose weight!!!

One of the many interesting facts that we found out was that Nutmeg tree actually produces two spices – nutmeg (the seed) and mace (the red lacy aril covering the kernel). Also raw Nutmeg tastes nothing like the processed spice.

A great garden swing that went out over the foliage.
