Basketball GOLD–ISKL Tournament–12th Nov 2011

Emily’s GIS (A-Team) won GOLD in the U11 ISKL Basketball Tournament in Kuala Lumpur.

The GIS A-Team won their pool matches relatively easily with wins over NEXUS, MKIS and Alice Smith by 20 to 30 point margins. This saw them play and win their semi-final against the GIS B-Team who were runners up in the other pool.

The final was against their rival ISKL and was a nail-biter. Very low scoring and very intense with GIS winning 10 to 8. Despite being double and triple tagged, Emily got two good lay-ups plus one assist and the whole GIS team played a fantastic defensive game.

Despite the ISKL coach saying they had spent the last two weeks training around how to shut down Emily, GIS were still victorious.  Emily played a tough game, was poleaxed and pushed quite a few times but she stuck in there and the team rallied well.

The GIS B-Team had a great result with Bronze, especially as they were mainly Grade 5 girls. Of course their coach had a lot to do with their bronze and the buzz around the place was that a new Super Coach was in the making.  Oh I think I neglected to say that Molly was their coach!!!
