Sunday afternoon we partook in the St Andrews Highland Games. We totally enjoyed ourselves sitting on the grass and watching the competition on a beautiful summer day. Highland Games go on throughout summer with many towns hosting their own shows / events.
A range of great events with hammer throw, caber toss, tug-o-war and highland dancing. Also many track events including cycling which was done on the grass to tough going for those competitors.
How good are these action shots taken by Kerrie of the Caber Toss. This was one of the hardest events with most people not being able to get the caber to flip over its end.
The games were very similar in scale and feel to a country town festival in Australia and we reminisced of the kids competing in a country festival at Coffs Harbour some years ago and also of me growing up in rural Australia and going to many of these types of events.
