Last week we spent 3 days at the Belum Eco-Resort in the Royal Belum State Park – Together with Taman Negara National Park it is one of the oldest rainforests in the world, dating back over 130 million years.
The Royal Belum State Park is not a National Park and so does not have the investment into it that Taman Negara does. This meant that it was less polished as a tourist destination and so felt much more raw.
The Belum Eco Resort was a lot of fun. It is on an island in the lake – the lake is a huge dam built for hydro electricity. The resort is rustic and simple. The food was plentiful and very nice with steam boat one night and BBQ the next – beautiful BBQ Lamb in mint.
We got the 3D2N package offered by the Eco-Resort which let us do the standard items of seeing the Rafflesia flower sites, asli villages, animal salt licks and waterfall. No animals to view but a solid day of walking and zooming around on the boat.
The house boat ride from the jetty out to the Eco-Resort was a great way to start our adventure as we had lunch while boating out and relaxed and read.
It was also great to cool off with a swim in the lake – the girls did some paddle boarding.
