Saturday night we were part of a 84,336 strong crowd at the MCG that got to see Australia 342/9 (50) demolish England 231/10 (41.5) in the opening game of the ICC 2015 Cricket World Cup. The day was summed up by realising that the 342 was Australia’s highest ever one-day score against England.
The highlights were Finch’s 135 supported by Maxwell with his 66 off 40 balls. Bowling was equally good with Mitchell Marsh’s 5 wicket innings and watching Starc and Johnson’s pace.
This was the girls first One Day International and although not their first time at the MCG it was the first time they are old enough to remember. We had tickets atop the Ponsford Stand which is part of the new grandstand complex and is very nice. Lots of food areas and bars and you can wander around the whole ground catching up with many friends.
Going to “The G” signifies that we are now back in Melbourne to stay as did Kerrie stuffing down a Four & Twenty Meat Pie!!!
Likewise catching up with my brother on Sunday and then Kurt Weideling, an old friend from ADFA, closed out a great weekend and made me feel even more that we were back at home in Melbourne.
