It has been years since I had a burger from McDonalds – Macca’s here in Australia – but thanks to the “Create Your Taste” Burger innovation this is definitely going to change that for me.
The “Create Your Taste” is a build-your-own burger with top quality ingredients – including egg, pineapple and beetroot – that is made to order and then brought direct to your table. This is what Macca’s wants to become in Australia, and from my perspective, like the Macca’s Cafe, I think this will really work.
Without a shadow of a doubt, this is the best Macca’s burger I’ve tasted by a significant margin. It may take 10 minutes or so to make it to your table but the wait is worth it and it means that Macca’s is now back on the road trip menu for us.
So how does it work? There is a touch screen kiosk where you can choose from more than 30 ingredients , including two types of buns, four kinds of cheese, two types of bacon and a range of specialty toppings including grilled pineapple, guacamole, beetroot, grilled mushrooms and a range of gourmet sauces. Handily, the display automatically tallies the kilojoule count of your order after you’ve added all the toppings.
You can pay at the kiosk with credit card, take your seat at a table, and then wait for your burger to be delivered beautifully presented on a wooden chopping board.
There is a price premium for the service as the average Build your own Burger will cost $10 to $12 Australian Dollars to a regular Big Mac of just under $6. But the quality is worth it.
