Last Friday night was Em’s turn at Goalie for her U15 Camberwell Hockey team. They do not have a permanent Goalie and so they rotate the position each week.
Em was nervous having never been in goals before but she did a great job keeping the opposition scoreless for a nil all result. She did a couple of good saves under pressure.
Em came off exhausted not from physical exertion but from the amount of nervous energy she expended. She commented on have not felt that nervous for a while.
You do have to respect Goalies as that last line of defence and knowing that a single mistake means a goal for the opposition. It does take nerve to be a top goalie.
Em the next day – her sister Molly tends to always be rigged up tight in bed while Em is all over the place. Sharing a bed with her means several kicks and punches throughout the night.
