It was a surreal Melbourne afternoon yesterday as I walked Ruby, our 10yo Beagle, around the parklands waiting for Em to start her Netball game. I was coated up to tackle the windy Melbourne winter weather. I walked amongst a couple of Boys Soccer Games to the screaming cheers of a goal on one match and some aggressive Soccer dads at the other. In the distance was the new athletic complex and cricket oval while on my other side a baseball game was in progress.
I strolled around thinking that we Aussies really are a sporty bunch.
I returned to the start of Em’s Netball game to see her dominate at centre. The opposition changed their centre at half time to a much quicker player which slowed Em for a bit but she soon worked out her new opponent and was back on top again. A big win for MLC this day.
Half time at the Netball I continued my Melbourne Sporting experience with a Sausage slapped on buttered bread off the Netball Sausage Sizzle.
Later that afternoon we had a quick trip out to Bulleen for Em’s Basketball. A messy match as the opposition were undisciplined which saw Em at the penalty line for a number of penalty baskets. She was not to her usual accuracy but still a big win to the team.
The evening was then down to Docklands for Carlton vs North Melbourne. I have long given up on seeing a win this season from the Blues and so I sit back and enjoy my Meat Pie at the footy and try not to analyse the game too much. Having the family – Kerrie, Moo and Em – at the footy doesn’t get much better especially when Kerrie pulls out the flask of milo and hands it around.
We decided to sit down at ground level behind the goals this time. You are really in the action down at ground level and you get a much better feel for how tough and fast pace the game now is.
It is now Sunday morning and I am about to pack the car and head down to the Beach House – really life is good.
