Given the circumstances. it was a quiet one in Albury for Moo’s 19th #Birthday with the traditional Albury Ice Cream Cake and then off to The Border Wine Room for a lavish #Degustation #Foodie #Gourmet.
The Border Wine Room was a pleasant surprise and is a great example of how fine dining and fine food is making it to the country.
The service was warm and friendly and although meals were a bit slow to come out on the night due to a party of 17 we did not mind as the staff kept checking in to make us feel special.
The food was superb, fresh and balanced and well match with the wines with a pleasant surprise being the Mandrin mule cocktail that was paired with Kerrie and Moo’s dessert of Snow “taste of mandarin”.
Entree “Smoked hock, pork loin, ginger, soy egg, pickled apple” on left and “Textures of aubergine” on right
Main “Baby chicken in wine lees, assorted grains, thyme foam, mushroom essence” on left and “Beef cheek in beetroot, eye fillet, horseradish butter, shiso, potato fondant” on right
Dessert “Cassia bark smoked chocolate, espresso gel, vanilla crème fraiche, praline” on left and Snow “taste of mandarin” on right
I think the twins enjoyed the experience of fine dining and even Nellie started to enjoy herself a bit. The rest of us just enjoyed having a pleasant evening of food and talk.
It is very much at the top end on price, especially for Albury, but when you want to really enjoy yourself, your food and wine then there are not too many other places to recommend.
