Lego System – Space

Space is a science fiction-based theme featuring astronauts and spaceships, introduced in 1978. It is one of the most expansive themes in LEGO’s history, and contains over 300 individual sets (As of January 2012, there are 362 space sets and counting).

 

462-1 Rocket Launcher

Set # 462-1: Rocket Launcher
Year 1979
A Classic Space set that contains a transporter erector launcher, consisting of a tractor unit and a trailer that carries a rocket. Also included are two Classic Space astronauts (one red and one white).

I think my first piece of Space Lego. I can remember making this set hundreds of times as a kid.

 

497-1 01 Galaxy Explorer

A Classic Space set that contains a large spacecraft, a ground base with a landing pad and a small tower, a small space rover and four Classic Space astronauts (two red, two white).

497-1 02 Galaxy ExplorerThe building of the ground base contains a control room and has a large dish antenna on the outside. The cockpit has enough room for two minifigures and can be accessed by tilting back its roof. The aft of the ship has a large cargo compartment with a loading ramp where the rover can be stored.  So much fun in a 1979 set!!!

This was one of the very first sets of LEGO Space – a small spacecraft piloted by a red Classic Space astronaut.

The spacecraft is small, light grey and open-topped. It has two seats with steering wheels in front of them.

A Classic Space set that contains a ground vehicle with a white Classic Space astronaut. In the back of the truck is a small chamber that contains a control monitor.

Space Transport is a Classic Space set. It was one of the very first sets of LEGO Space. The set contains a spacecraft piloted by a red Classic Space astronaut.

Year 1986
A Classic Space set released as part of 1507 Space Value Pack. It contains 25 pieces to build a small spacecraft piloted by a red Classic Space astronaut minifigure.

 

3014-1 Space Diver

Year 1999
A promotional set of the Japanese confectionary company Kabaya. It contains a small Ice Planet 2002 vehicle piloted by an astronaut.

 

6783-1 Sonar Transmitting Cruiser

The spaceship consists of several detachable sections: The cockpit section, two lab modules in the middle, and a small drive section at the aft. One of the labs has a 9V block with Light & Sound bricks at the top.

Yellow Classic Space Astronaut on a wheeled ground vehicle.

 

6846-1 Tri-Star Voyager

Year 1984
The most distinctive feature of this set is that the pilot’s seat and main rocket engine are contained in a cockpit module that slides on a rail and can detach completely from the main body.

A Classic Space set. It contains a spacecraft with a red Classic Space astronaut.

 

 

6850-1 Auxiliary Patroller

A Futuron set that contains a spacecraft with a Yellow Futuron Astronaut. This is one of the few smaller Futuron spacecraft that have a closed cockpit.

A Blacktron Future Generation set that contains a three-wheeled ground vehicle and one of the Blacktron Future Generation astronauts.

A Classic Space set that contains a ground vehicle with an inclinable launcher for a small spacecraft on its back and a red Classic Space astronaut.

A Classic Space release. I purchased this off eBay. In good condition and I still have the original box and instructions.

 

6970 Beta-1 Command Base -

A really cool set with a spaceship that launches!!!A Classic Space set that contains a surface station with a short monorail track, a spacecraft, a rover and four Classic Space astronauts.

 

6980-1 01 Galaxy Commander

Set # 6980-1: Galaxy Commander
Year 1983
A Classic Space set that contains a large spaceship, a landing pad, two ground vehicles and five Classic Space astronauts (2 white, 2 yellow, 1 red).

 

6980-1 02 Galaxy Commander

The spaceship consists of two separable segments. The front section with two cockpits, and the aft section that contains a detachable lab module which is held in place by two clamps. The lab module can be opened by folding the roof to the side and is equipped with a dish antenna that can be collapsed to lie flat on the roof.

A Life on Mars themed set containing a martian, Altair. It is a moderately small set and contained seventy-three pieces. It also appears in the video game, LEGO Racers 2, on Mars as an obstacle in some races and challenges.
